Agility Training Device

Smart training device for youth athletes to give access to agility training. Focused on providing accessible high level training to young athletes as an alternative to expensive personal training.

Objective:

Design a Training Device

Through research and market analysis find an underserved market with a product that provides complex agility training to young athletes.

Research

Key insights taken from the process of interviews, market research and observation.

Sketches

Quick explorations of form and function with a cross of physical and digital sketching and rendering.

Quick Models

First iteration of models exploring stability, form and the way that individuals would interact with modules.

The main take away from these form studies and  was that most of those surveyed the 3 legged design was both the most visually appealing and felt the most stable when tested in mock agility training scenarios.

Concept

Morphic is a modular agility training system. It used microwave technology to sense when an athlete is within a specified and adjustable range to "trigger" the cone prompting the next interaction for the athlete.

The difference between Morphic and other options on the market (2023) is the 360 degrees of motion sensing. This allows for the external stimulus that is key and often missed in agility training.

Final Product

Morphic is an innovative modular agility training device designed to enhance athletic performance through real-time interaction. It uses advanced microwave sensor technology to detect athletes and enable immediate reaction to external stimuli, a key factor in agility training. One of the major advantages of using microwave sensors is their ability to achieve 360-degree sensing, providing comprehensive coverage without any blind spots, something that other motion sensors can't match. This ensures a seamless training experience, especially in fast-paced sports like soccer or basketball.

The device is stackable and charges conveniently in its dedicated case. It can be managed through a mobile app, allowing users to customize, create, and share training programs, as well as set up the devices quickly and easily.

The choice of microwave sensors over traditional touch-based sensors stems from the need for uninterrupted movement, ensuring athletes can focus entirely on their training without distraction.
